President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has returned to Malé City after concluding a two-day visit to Faresmaathodaa, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, to join the 42nd Fishermen's Day celebrations.
During the visit, President Solih met with the members of the Faresmaathodaa Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and held extensive discussions about the socioeconomic development of the island. The president met with the fishing community on Faresmaathodaa Island, inquired about their needs, and shared with them ongoing efforts by the administration to promote and develop the fisheries sector. He also attended a fish-filleting contest and a Fisheries Expo organised by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, as part of Fishermen's Day activities. He launched new products at the expo introduced by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) and Horizon Fisheries Private Limited.
At the official function held to mark the occasion, President Solih reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to resolving the challenges facing the fishermen of Huvadhu Atoll. He also described some of the administration's initiatives. He revealed plans to dedicate 270 tonne storage capacity and 120 tonne brine freezing capacity to Huvadhu Atoll next year.
A number of activities were held on Faresmaathodaa as part of Fishermen's Day celebrations.
