Thinadhoo Island Council has decided to take legal action against individuals who do not pay rent regularly.
Speaking to PSM News, President of Thinadhoo Island Council Saud Ali said that between 100-120 plots of land have been allocated by the council. He said these land plots have been allocated for fishing, agriculture and industrial activities. In addition, he said about 30 of the leased plots are not paying rent regularly. He also noted that more than USD291,800 in rent was not received by the end of February.
The council also arranged for the rent to be paid in installments in May 2022. The council said tenants are applying for extensions. However, the agreement cannot be extended if there is any money owed to the council. As such, the council decided to take legal action to recover the money if the rent is not paid.
