Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has stated that the unpaid waste disposal bills will not be incorporated in the utility bill of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).
Speaking at a press conference on the inclusion of the waste disposal bills in the utility bill of STELCO, Managing Director Yoosuf Siraj said that WAMCO is not receiving a large portion of its revenue, adding more than 53,000 households in Male' City is registered and only 20,000 households pay regular fees.
The government stated that the company's cash flow is hampered due to non-payment of waste disposal bills. However, the change will solve the current difficulties in collecting bills. As such, WAMCO stated that the waste disposal bill will be included in the utility bill from April 1 and will be sent to more than 50,000 households registered with STELCO. Currently, 24,000 households are registered with WAMCO.
WAMCO advised households to update their information upon the combination of both bills. Individuals are asked to complete and submit the Utility Metre Exclusion Form to STELCO if If there is an elevator or maintenance metre among ordinary household electricity metres. In addition, WAMCO has requested the managers of commercial residential complexes to complete and submit the Primary Metre Identification and Grouping Form. Institutions and businesses using WAMCO services are requested to submit the Information Update Form before April 6. The waste collection service will be suspended if the information is not submitted within that period.
WAMCO is currently charging USD9.7 per household to collect waste. The prices charged to collect fees from government companies and private collectors have been changed to manage cash flow. As such, USD166 per tonne is charged from state agencies and government-owned companies. In addition, private commercial collectors are charged USD172.5 per tonne, private individuals are charged USD68.7 per tonne for waste brought to the transfer station, and USD64.8 per tonne that is not separated.
