MNU to establish medical college in Hulhumale'

The Maldives National University (MNU) has announced efforts are underway to establish a medical college in Hulhumale'.

During a programme on PSM News, Vice Chancellor Dr. Shehenaz Adam revealed that the current premises for the medical school are quite limited, situated on the 2nd floor of Dharumavantha Hospital. Highlighting the consistent surge in interest in the field of medicine, she expressed the necessity of expanding facilities. Consequently, the decision has been made to construct a dedicated medical college in Hulhumale'.

Dr. Shehenaz said the work for the new medical college in Hulhumale' has already commenced. She also said the facility is planned to include a hospital alongside other essential amenities for skill development in the medical field and design plans for both the college and hospital have been finalised. Anticipated to commence operations this year, the medical college is poised to cater to the growing demand for medical education.

Currently, 196 students are pursuing medical or doctoral studies at the MNU. Dr. Shehenaz underscored the institution's commitment to initiating additional programmes and extending them to the atolls.

As the medical doctor programme gains popularity within the Maldives, the university is witnessing a rising demand for nursing programs. Dr. Shehenaz expressed the university's dedication to meeting this demand and further enriching the educational offerings in the healthcare domain.
