Gov't forms three task forces to oversee security concerns

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has formed three specialised task forces to oversee security and safety concerns, comprising five agencies under the ministry.

The homeland ministry, along with the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Correctional Service (MCS), and National Drug Agency (NDA), shared comprehensive details of the administration's initiatives in the field.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan underscored that the formation of the task forces aimed to foster enhanced collaboration among the various agencies. He outlined the specific focus areas for the task forces, which include addressing drug-related issues, monitoring high-risk crimes, and tackling challenges associated with foreign labour in the Maldives.

Additionally, Minister Ihusaan disclosed significant progress in addressing the country's drug and liquor challenges, with seizures amounting to 13 million. He also anticipates dedication from the assigned task forces to finding lasting solutions to the issues.

Furthermore, Minister Ihusaan highlighted the ministry's commitment to optimising and improving service quality. He shared plans to tackle challenges related to the issuance of identification (ID) cards, including the resolution of a backlog of 2,000 ID cards. in addition, he announced the establishment of an accessible complaint system for issues concerning agencies under the ministry. He also provided insights into the ongoing efforts to broaden the ministry's scope by incorporating additional agencies, ensuring efficient and convenient service delivery.
