Gov't to facilitate sale of local products to foreign markets

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has stated that efforts are being made to facilitate the sale of local products into international markets.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Economic Development and Trade Hussain Zamir highlighted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to ensuring that the products of Maldivian manufacturers are not limited to the domestic market. He said that the President envisions the expansion of Maldivian products into both domestic and international markets. He also said that preparations are underway to establish a system for promoting local products on international platforms to achieve the vision.

Additionally, Minister Hussain noted existing obstacles in selling local products on international platforms, particularly challenges related to financial transactions. He highlighted issues with sending and receiving money, as well as delivering goods. He also expressed ongoing efforts to create systems for marketing local products on international platforms, with a focus on supporting youth, new entrepreneurs, and women involved in various sectors.

The ministry also announced the completion of arrangements for the women's loan scheme, a key component of the administration's Week-14 Roadmap. The central objective outlined in the roadmap is the introduction of a USD6.5 million loan scheme aimed at empowering women, facilitating the initiation and enhancement of their entrepreneurial endeavours.
