JP extends deadline for candidacy submission for parliamentary election

Jumhooree Party (JP) has extended the deadline for the submission of candidacy forms for individuals seeking the party's ticket in the 2024 parliamentary election.

JP opened the submission period for candidacy in the 2024 parliamentary election from December 17 to December 26. Recognising the challenges faced by many in meeting the initial deadline, JP has extended the submission window until January 25 to afford eligible members an additional opportunity to contest.

The extension comes in response to the difficulties encountered by individuals, especially those traveling abroad or to the islands during the school holidays, hindering them from submitting their application forms within the original timeframe, according to JP.

Prospective candidates wishing to contest on the JP ticket are encouraged to complete the form before 1400hrs on January 25. Submissions should include their names, copies of educational certificates, and identification card copies.

The party has extended the deadline in consideration of the broader circumstances, acknowledging the importance of facilitating widespread participation. Applications will be assessed by the party council or a committee appointed for this purpose.

Currently, only two members represent JP in the 19th Parliament. They are JP leader Qasim Ibrahim and Parliamentarian Ali Hussain. JP has held discussions with other political parties regarding the parliamentary election.
