Parliamentary committee approves all 22 ministers

The parliamentary government oversight committee has granted approval to all 22 cabinet ministers.

During the committee meeting, five members voted in favor of the 22 cabinet ministers, while members from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) opted not to cast votes on either side.
Parliamentarian Abdulla Riaz proposed the motion for approval of the committee and it garnered support from Parliamentarian Ahmed Rasheed.

The committee initiated discussions among its members after a letter concerning ministerial approval sent by a private individual. As such, the committee proposed a vote of no confidence, yet a decision was reached to conduct separate votes.

Previously, the Parliament had slated December 18 for the approval of cabinet ministers. However, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam decided to refer the matter back to the committee due to an incomplete report and the unapproved mandates of the ministries.
