Old Friday Mosque area to be renovated and decorated for Ramadan

The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has stated that the Old Friday Mosque grounds and the minaret will be renovated for the month of Ramadan. State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) is preparing to renovate and decorate the area.

The ministry stated that the renovation work at the mosque, its grounds and the minaret will be completed before the month of Ramadan. The Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim, Managing Director of STELCO Hussain Fahmy and relevant officials of the two institutions met to discuss the project.

The work will be carried out under the supervision of a special committee comprising officials from the ministry, STELCO, and other relevant institutions. During the meeting, they also discussed expanding STELCO's technical role of renovating and conserving heritage sites under its social responsibility.

The renovation of the minaret of the Old Friday Mosque is part of STELCO's corporate social responsibility. The work will include cleaning the minaret and the mosque grounds and renovating some other monuments. A technical team from the company will repair the damage to the inside and outside of the minaret as well as remove the equipment left by the team that had renovated the Old Friday Mosque.

The ministry stated that the project is scheduled to start as soon as the weather permits. The area will be decorated after the renovation work is completed. The ministry stated that it will continue to clean and decorate the area to celebrate the month of Ramadan and other Islamic occasions such as Eid.

The agreement between the ministry and STELCO to renovate heritage sites has expired and is being reviewed. The ministry plans to expand the renovation work to different parts of the country with the technical assistance of STELCO.
