The Maldives National University (MNU) has appointed deans to three of its faculties. The newly appointed deans will lead the MNU School of Medicine, Faculty of Education, and Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies.
Dr. Sheeza Ali has been appointed Dean of the MNU School of Medicine, bringing with her extensive experience in health system development and expansion since 1995. Her background includes work at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and the Ministry of Health, as well as serving as the project director for the Maldives' first medical school and previously as the Dean of the School of Medicine.
Zeenath Solih has been reappointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality, marking her second term in this leadership role. Joining MNU in 1999, she has progressed through various positions, including trainee, assistant lecturer, and lecturer within the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality.
Nadhiya Ahmed has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Education, leveraging her extensive 26-year tenure as an educator. She has held roles as an assistant lecturer and lecturer within the Faculty of Education, and previously served as the Dean of Students at MNU.
During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam highlighted the capability and experience of the appointed deans in their respective fields. She expressed optimism that the appointments would enhance collaboration with faculty stakeholders and emphasised a commitment to developing faculty staff and regularly reviewing the curriculum.
MNU stated that the appointment of the deans follows the expiration of the terms of the previous deans, with the term for a faculty dean at MNU spanning four years.
