The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has launched its action plan regarding religious affairs.
The action plan was launched by Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed during a special ceremony. He emphasised the plan's focus on issues pertinent to the national interest and religious unity of the Maldives during his address at the ceremony. He also urged the employees at the Islamic ministry to collaborate in accomplishing the plan's objectives.
The objectives of the action plan centre on facilitating the expression of Islamic principles and the dissemination of religious information, aiming to foster a sustainable and religiously aware society. The plan aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's manifesto and outlines various activities scheduled throughout the year. It includes measures to ensure that individuals with disabilities receive full assistance and benefits within the social security services. The ministry's activities will also be broadcast in sign language and provisions will be made to facilitate prayer for those with special needs at the Islamic Centre in Male' City.
Additionally, the plan addresses the condition of mosques, seeking to identify and resolve issues. A fundraising system, separate from the state budget, will be established to triple the funds allocated for mosque renovations. The action plan encompasses initiatives to enhance programmes conducted by the National Centre for the Holy Quran, introducing training programmes, translating Quran-related books, expanding Quran classes, and establishing branches in the islands.
Furthermore, the plan outlines procedures for establishing Waqf buildings across the country, with six projects set to launch during the year. It also aims to offer quality services to pilgrims while reducing the cost of Hajj pilgrimages. A conference will address challenges faced by Umrah groups, and a dedicated Hajj and Umrah portal will be established. The plan advocates for activities strengthening Zakat and increasing allowances for hafizes. It also includes efforts to achieve the ministry's mandate objectives.
