Committee approves appointment of Zakariyya to ECM

Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the appointment of Hassan Zakariyya to fill vacant Elections Commissions (ECM) position. Reportedly, the committee passed the resolution last week, unanimously.

Moreover, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu submitted the name of the current Secretary General at ECM, Hassan Zakariyya, to the parliament on February 18. Additionally, the name has been reviewed and has been forwarded to the parliament representatives.

Furthermore, the position of ECM became vacant upon the conclusion of Ismail Habeeb Abduh-Raheem's tenure as the Vice President of ECM.

In conclusion, alongside Zakariyya, 13 other individuals submitted applications for the vacant post. Co-currently, the tenure for a member of the commission spans 4 years.
