IASL files case against MDP over USD363,000 unpaid flight travels

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), the operator of the national airline, Maldivian, has taken legal action by filing a case in the Civil Court against the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for non-payment totaling USD363,000 for flight use during the last presidential election campaign in 2023.

Managing Director of IASL, Ibrahim Iyas, stated that the company has attempted various methods in its efforts to obtain the funds in the case. He also mentioned that despite issuing a written notice to the MDP last month demanding payment, the party has yet to respond.

Previously, an agreement had been established between IASL and MDP, outlining settlement terms requiring payment within 48 hours from the date of service. However, MDP has failed to fulfill this obligation. IASL has diligently pursued the recovery of USD365,101, attributed to tickets and charter flights used by MDP during 10 trips between September and October of the previous year.

Having exhausted other avenues, IASL has decided to pursue legal action to recover the outstanding amount owed by the MDP.
