MDP will always work to safeguard the rights of individuals: Solih

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Advisor of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has affirmed that the party will always work to ensure that the needs of the residents are met. The remarks were made by the former president during a campaign event.

Speaking at the event, Former President Solih assured that the party will strive to safeguard the rights of the citizens while criticising the policies utilised by the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Solih additionally reiterated the allegations, stating that the current administrations has halted several initiatives and projects commenced by the previous government.

However, the current administration disclosed that the projects initiated by the previous government were halted six months prior to the presidential elections, which were held last year. It further revealed that the projects were entrusted to various companies close to the election, without securing the necessary finances, which led to the stoppage of the projects. Regardless, the government stated that the required funds have been provided to ensure the continuation of the projects. On this stance, President Dr. Muizzu proclaimed that the practical work of 527 projects are currently underway. Additionally, the president unveiled that the required funds for the projects launched by the previous administration mounted to USD 584 million.

The 20th parliamentary election is scheduled to take place on April 21. While several campaign events are ongoing, MDP affirmed that senior officials will travel to various constituencies to succeed in the upcoming election.
