The counting of votes cast in the 20th parliamentary election held has begun and preliminary results are being announced.
Providing information regarding the election to PSM News, Member of Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Hassan Zakariyya has affirmed that the voting queues in all polling stations have been closed sharp at 1730hrs. Zakariyya further revealed that a total of 213,156 individuals had cast votes by the time.
Statistics released by the ECM at 1700hrs indicated that the percentage of eligible voters who voted were 72.96%. However, ECM anticipates the increase in percentage, as individuals are still occupying queues in certain polling stations.
The total number of eligible voters for the 20th parliamentary election is 284,663.
