Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has officiated the award night and closing ceremony of the first international sports event hosted in the Maldives this year, the '6th Asian Carrom Championship 2024'. The tournament was held from April 26 to May 1.
Several Maldivian athletes who participated in the tournament won awards across different categories. The award night and the closing ceremony were held to celebrate the victorious accomplishment of the athletes. During the event, the Vice President presented awards to the champions. Additionally, mementos of service were handed to those who assisted in organising the event.
During this year's Presidential address, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had assured the full support for the advancement of sports, acknowledging the concerns raised by Maldivian athletes. The President had further outlined plans for sports associations to flourish and engage actively in the upcoming year. He additionally highlighted the commencement of training programmes for Maldivian athletes, aiming for sustained success in sporting competitions.
