Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has stated that the long-standing culture of lawlessness in the Maldives will be eradicated under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's leadership. He made the statement during the inauguration ceremony of the Male' Fahi Programme, aimed at ending the illegal parking of vehicles causing traffic congestion in Male' City.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan highlighted his commitment to implementing legal changes to support the national programme. As such, he noted that the traffic police have been re-established as part of the Maldives Police Service's strategic action plan.
Additionally, Minister Ihusaan assured that strict measures would be taken against individuals that illegally register vehicles outside the online portal of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. He also addressed the need to resolve parking issues in Male' and outlined efforts to tow illegally parked vehicles to alleviate traffic congestion in the Greater Male' Region.
Furthermore, Minister Ihusaan said that special access routes to residential houses are being created, and vehicles parked in such areas are being towed. He said that efforts are also underway to remove abandoned vehicles from the roads, ban vehicles with fake number plates, and prohibit the use of modified motorcycle with replaced silencers that produce excessive noise.
Moreover, Minister Ihusaan reiterated the existence of a lawlessness culture in the Maldives and said that President Dr. Muizzu has mandated its eradication. He also confirmed that relevant agencies are collaborating to address this issue and assured that the Male' Fahi Programme will be fully implemented and completed.
