Maldives strongly condemns attack on UAE Ambassador residence in Sudan

The Government of Maldives has strongly condemned the heinous attack that targeted the residence of the UAE Ambassador in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldivian government condemned attacks on diplomatic facilities, calling them a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and international diplomatic immunity laws. The Maldives reiterated the importance of protecting diplomatic premises according to established international treaties and customs, expressing solidarity with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during this crisis.

On Monday, the UAE announced that a Sudanese military aircraft had attacked the residence of its ambassador in Khartoum, causing significant damage. The UAE's foreign ministry emphasized the need to safeguard diplomatic properties and the residences of embassy staff in line with international diplomatic regulations.

The Sudanese army has accused the UAE of supplying weapons and support to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The UAE has denied these claims, although U.N. sanctions monitors have found the allegations credible.
