President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu remarks that Huravee Day stands as a profound example of both loyalty to and betrayal of the nation.
In a social media message on the occasion of Huravee Day, he reflected on the noble sacrifices and the admirable moral values demonstrated by the heroes of this significant day. He highlighted that these principles provide some of the most valuable lessons for all.
Huravee Day, observed annually on the 3rd of Jumadul Aakhira in the Hijri calendar, commemorates the uprising led by Sultan Hassan Izzuddeen in 1752, which liberated the Maldives from the brief occupation by the Malabaris of southern India. The day serves as an important reminder for citizens to honour their national heroes and uphold the spirit of freedom, nationalism, and the enthusiasm they instilled in the hearts of the people.
