Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Sunday performed its first ever pacemaker implantation surgery.
The procedure was performed at IGMHs National Cardiac Centre Sunday morning.
The team which carried out the surgery said the procedure was successful and that the patient was in good health.
The procedure was done on an 84-year old woman, who is currently under observation at the Cardiac Centre.
A pacemaker is an electrically-charged medical device implanted into the skin to help manage irregular heartbeats called arrhythmias.
A pacemaker is implanted if a patient’s heart is pumping too quickly or slowly, causing fatigue, fainting, light-headedness, shortness of breath, damage to vital organs and eventual death.
