Dubai firm to finish Addu power station

Fenaka Corporation has signed a USD 31 million agreement with Definite Solutions, a Dubai-based firm, to complete the Addu Central Power Station, a project regarded as critical to resolving chronic electricity disruptions in Addu City.

The contract was formalised during a ceremony hosted by the state-owned utility, with Mohamed Najah, Fenaka’s managing director, and Abdulla Saeed, founder and chief executive officer of Definite Solutions, signing the agreement.

Definite Solutions will take on full responsibility for finishing the central facility, including the installation and operationalisation of its power generators. Najah expressed confidence that the project will now advance without interruption, with completion scheduled for the end of next year.

“As this project commences, our objective is, God willing, to secure a comprehensive resolution to Addu City’s electricity issues by the close of 2027,” Najah stated. “We have structured this contract specifically to guarantee that outcome”.

The Dubai-registered firm was chosen after Fenaka terminated its earlier contract with Dongfang Electric Corporation, a Chinese company, citing failure to meet agreed terms. Definite Solutions brings to the project a record of managing and executing major infrastructure developments across the Middle East.

The Addu Central Power Station is expected to deliver a significant upgrade to the region’s energy grid. The facility will be equipped with low-speed generator sets manufactured by the Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC), replacing the high-speed generator sets currently in use across Addu City. Fenaka officials confirmed that once operational, the European-engineered systems will provide a total generation capacity of 26.37 megawatts.
