The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has departed for Saudi Arabia on an official visit.
Minister Dr Shaheem is attending the Umrah and Ziyarah Forum 2026, which is currently being held in Medina.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is scheduled to be signed with a Saudi Arabian company for the construction of a major mosque planned for Hulhumalé.
Under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, relations between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia have continued to strengthen. In this regard, the Saudi government has been providing ongoing support to the Maldives, particularly in matters related to Hajj pilgrimage.
Close collaboration is also continuing with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, with several joint initiatives actively being pursued.
In addition, efforts are being carried out in coordination with the Saudi Embassy in the Maldives, reflecting the growing depth of cooperation between the two countries
