In a significant step towards realising the nation's digital future, a special consultation meeting was convened to galvanise private sector participation in the ambitious Maldives 2.0 strategic roadmap.
The event, titled "Co-Creating Pillar 8 - Private Sector Dialogue," brought together key government figures and industry leaders to forge a collaborative path forward.
Organised by the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, the Maldives Digital Service, and MINDCo, the meeting saw robust attendance from digital transformation officers across government ministries and numerous private sector representatives.
Central to the dialogue was the eighth pillar of the Maldives 2.0 framework, which is dedicated to fostering a digital economy through innovation, technical entrepreneurship, and robust government-technology collaboration. This pillar is critically linked to broader goals of nationwide digital transformation and citizen-centric digital services.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, MINDCo Managing Director Saeeda Umar set the tone for the collaboration. She emphasised that for the Maldives 2.0 roadmap to achieve sustainable growth, its benefits must be directly distributed to the contributors of the economy.
“The real benefits and sustainable growth of development projects can only be achieved if the benefits are directly distributed to those involved in the country's economic activities,” she said.
Saeeda expressed her belief that delivering development benefits to taxpayers and innovators would elevate their productivity and innovative potential.
“Government agencies are the basic foundation that facilitates such things. We need to work with the private sector to implement these important policies,” she added.
The primary objective of the meeting was to foster constructive discussions in an open environment, specifically focusing on mechanisms to increase private sector involvement in the roadmap's implementation. These discussions are expected to help refine the plan's activities and significantly expand the role of private enterprises in building a strong digital economy.
In line with the national strategic direction, a key outcome of the dialogue was the reinforced commitment to strengthening the tripartite relationship between government agencies, private businesses, and innovators. This partnership is deemed vital to ensuring the Maldives 2.0 roadmap delivers tangible benefits for all stakeholders and successfully transforms the nation's ICT ecosystem.
