Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has returned to the Maldives after attending the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Speaker departed for Istanbul on the April 13 to participate in the international parliamentary gathering, accompanied by several Members of Parliament and the Secretary General of Parliament.
During the Assembly, he addressed delegates, highlighting the responsibility of legislatures in tackling global challenges such as instability, conflict and discrimination.
Held under the theme “Instilling Hope, Establishing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations”, the session also focused on empowering youth and women through education, healthcare and employment, as well as strengthening their role in decision-making processes.
The Speaker concluded his official visit and returned to the Maldives on April 21.
