The Government is currently carrying out 113 housing projects across the Maldives as part of efforts to provide a permanent solution to the housing difficulties faced by the public, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has said.
Finding a permanent solution to the housing difficulties faced by Maldivians is a key priority of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Housing is one of the biggest social challenges affecting communities across the country.
Successive governments have worked to address the issue through various housing schemes in Malé and the atolls. However, continued population growth and rising demand for housing mean the issue remains a concern for many people.
Against this backdrop, the Administration of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has made finding a comprehensive solution to the country's housing challenges one of its highest priorities in the development sector. Ensuring secure housing for every Maldivian is also among the Administration's key objectives.
As part of efforts to provide a permanent solution to the housing difficulties faced by the public, the Government currently has 113 housing projects underway across the country.
The projects include 21 in the Malé region, nine in Addu City, nine in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, eight in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, seven each in Baa and Raa Atolls, six each in Gaafu Dhaalu, Thaa, Meemu. and Lhaviyani Atolls, five each in Laamu and Haa Alifu Atolls, four in Dhaalu Atoll, three each in Fuvahmulah City, Alifu Alifu, Noonu. and Shaviyani. Atolls, and two in Alifu Dhaalu. Atoll.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the current Administration will provide secure housing to more people than any previous government. He has also assured that the Administration is carrying out its housing projects free from influence.
Housing is the biggest social challenge facing the Maldives. The stability of society is closely linked to the well-being of families, while many families live with several children in confined spaces without adequate privacy, contributing to increased problems within families.
Governments continue to undertake extensive efforts to find a solution to the country's housing challenges.
