President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu upgrading project on the northern side of Male', where roadworks are continuing as part of the first phase of the redevelopment.
The President was accompanied during the visit by the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, and senior officials of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The first phase of the project covers five sections of the road stretching from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.
During the visit, officials briefed the President on the progress of the works and outlined the remaining stages of the project.
MTCC said asphalt laying has now begun, with paving already completed on the section between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Asphalt works on the remaining section from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Presidential Jetty are expected to begin shortly.
As part of the project, land adjacent to the road will also be reclaimed to develop a new parking area with capacity for 500 motorcycles.
The aim is to complete all components of the project and reopen the road to the public by 26 July, according to MTCC.
The Government expects the upgraded road to significantly improve traffic flow and help ease congestion in Male'.
