The Maldives has strongly condemned Israel’s rejection of a roadmap aimed at completing the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the Gaza conflict.
The government said Israel’s opposition to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state was also unacceptable, arguing that the position undermines international efforts to end the conflict and achieve a lasting peace.
The Maldives said the roadmap, endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, should be implemented fully and without delay.
It welcomed diplomatic efforts by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Türkiye and other international partners that helped secure acceptance of the roadmap by the Palestinian side.
The government said implementation was essential to address the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, restore security and stability, and support reconstruction and recovery.
It also said the plan should help create the conditions for a lasting peace based on international law.
The Maldives reiterated its support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and to establish an independent and sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
