The Maldives and the United Arab Emirates have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, as the Maldives' newly appointed ambassador to the UAE, Thoriq Ibrahim, formally began his tenure.
Ambassador Thoriq presented his Letter of Credence to UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during a ceremony at Qasr Al Watan.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Ambassador Thoriq and congratulated him on the start of his diplomatic mission, wishing him success in carrying out his duties.
During the meeting, Ambassador Thoriq conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, as well as from the Maldivian government and people, to the UAE president, government and people.
Thoriq also reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and close bilateral cooperation between the two countries during his tenure.
The Maldives and the UAE established diplomatic relations on 15 March 1978. Mr Ibrahim is the seventh Maldivian ambassador to be accredited to the UAE.
The two countries have maintained close diplomatic relations for decades, with cooperation spanning a range of areas of mutual interest.
