The Maldives has increased its tourism bed capacity by 1,000 as of 5th September, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
The ministry's latest statistics show that there are currently 68,544 beds in operation across the tourism sector. By the end of last year, the total stood at 67,475 beds, representing an increase of 1,069 beds. These include 45,891 beds in resorts, 17,268 beds in guesthouses, 3,481 beds in safaris, 2,654 beds in hotels.
Out of the tourism establishments in the Maldives, 179 are resorts, 956 are guesthouses, 172 are safaris, and 16 are hotels.
According to the latest figures, Maldives has welcomed 1.4 million tourists, of those 1 million chose to stay at resorts, 300,000 stayed at guesthouses, 33,513 stayed at hotels and 26,550 stayed at safaris.
