President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to the One China Principle while pledging to further strengthen ties and cooperation with China.
President Muizzu made the remarks in separate messages to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, congratulating them and the Chinese people on the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
He highlighted the strong bilateral relationship between the Maldives and China, describing it as being based on longstanding friendship and close partnership.
The president said China’s continued support and partnership had contributed to the Maldives’ socioeconomic progress over recent decades.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to expanding cooperation between the two countries to create shared opportunities and mutual benefits.
President Muizzu conveyed the greetings and good wishes of the Maldivian government and people to the Chinese government and people on the anniversary.
He wished President Xi and Premier Li good health and wellbeing, and expressed hopes for continued peace, unity and prosperity in China.
The president reiterated the sentiments in a post on his official X account.
