Quality education and Islamic values vital to nation’s future, says Heritage Minister

A nation’s future rests on raising a generation equipped with quality education, sound moral values and good character grounded in Islam, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has said.

The Minister made the remarks at a special ceremony held at the Central Hotel to honour teachers of Excel International School, where she highlighted the pivotal role educators play in shaping the character and values of future generations.

Minister Heena said the Maldives needs a generation that combines education with good upbringing and exemplary conduct, including respect for oneself and others and compassion towards fellow citizens.

“What this country needs is a generation that is educated and well brought up, with good manners such as respecting oneself and others and showing kindness. The people who can play the most important role in building such a generation are our beloved teachers,” she said.

The Minister also stressed the importance of raising children to love their country, uphold the values of Islam and preserve their national identity. She urged those responsible for their upbringing to make every effort to instil these principles from an early age.

The ceremony recognised Excel International School teachers for their contributions and achievements in various areas, with awards presented to selected teachers. Parents also submitted special nominations recognising teachers for their work.
