Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee has revealed that practical work on the development of three fish canning factories would commence soon.
In an exclusive interview with PSM News, the Fisheries minister revealed that finances for the development of these factories have been allocated in this year's budget.
Minister Shainee also said that plans have been formulated and research conducted prior to the development of these factories. Research was conducted to choose the optimal locations to build these factories, and also to develop micro-canneries essential for the development of the factories.
The Minister highlighted that with the establishment of the three new fish canning factories, difficulties faced by fishermen in this field would be eased.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom first announced the development of these factories on Fishermen's day 2016.
