Maldivian Delegation led by Foreign Secretary of Maldives Ahmed Sareer has returned to Maldives after attending the 18th Mid-term Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The Ministerial Conference, preceded by senior officials meeting was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from April 3 to 5 under the theme of Promoting International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development.
Foreign Secretary Sareer addressed the Ministerial Conference on April 6. In his address, the Foreign Secretary highlighted the adherence of Maldives to multilateralism as a guide for international engagement and the country's emphasis on all disputes to be resolved through dialogue.
Furthermore, the Foreign Secretary held several bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegations at the sidelines of the Conference.
The conference concluded with the adoption of Documents of the Conference and with the decision to hold the 18th NAM Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2019. Maldives has been a member of the NAM since 15 August 1976 and has actively participated in its meetings.
