Addu Fisheries Complex to open in July

Maldivian fishermen face difficulty in selling fish during the fishing season due to the lack of fish buying and storing capacity in the country. With President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom assuming office in 2013, he has taken key and strategic steps to solve the issues.
One such development is the establishment of a Fisheries Complex in Addu city, which is set to be inaugurated by July this year. In its efforts to enhance the fisheries sector of Maldives, the administration has been establishing ice storage facilities across the country.
Under these efforts, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) prepares to inaugurate the Addu Fisheries Complex next month. The administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has taken key and strategic steps to ensure local fishermen receive the best prices for the fish, especially during the fishing seasons. To achieve the objectives, the current administration has expanded the capacity of MIFCO.
While MIFCO prioritises locals in hiring for jobs, MIFCO has scheduled open days across the south of Maldives. In this regard, Hulhumeedhoo open day will be held on June 20, Hithadhoo open day on June 21 and the open day in Fuvahmulah city will held on June 22. Information regarding available opportunities and information about fisheries will be provided during open day events, according to MIFCO.
