Elections Commission of Maldives has opened opportunity for representatives of presidential candidates to sign the voters list for the presidential election. Elections Commission said it has opened until September 12 to sign the final voters list.
Speaking to media on the latest information regarding presidential election, President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef stated 78 complaints were filed during the re-registration process, adding arrangements have now been made for the candidates to sign the final list compiled after addressing the complains. The elections commission will provide signing services for 24 hours until September 12, according to Ahmed Shareef. The electoral body has granted permission for 25 representatives per candidate to sign the list.
Noting preparations are almost over for the presidential election, Ahmed Shareef revealed voting papers will be sent out for printing next week. Moreover, elections commission revealed every candidate will be given the opportunity to hold a pool of 50 officials. Highlighting many complaints were received regarding officials during past elections held in Maldives, he noted a reserve pool of 300 officials will be selected to avoid any issues which may be faced on polling day.
The electoral body said 85 international observers and monitors, 2,680 local observers and 3,614 local monitors, in addition to 849 candidate representatives will be active in the presidential election, scheduled to be held on September 23.
