President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has affirmed opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih hesitates to call on international parties to stop the efforts to influence the upcoming presidential election.
Foreign parties seek ways to influence the election to an extent it is questionable whether the election decides the presidency of Maldives, said President Abdulla Yameen addressing the ceremony held to mark the completion of some projects in Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Noting the opposition calls and welcomes foreign influence to solve internal matters of Maldives, President Yameen expressed the frontline of the opposition are fully owned or sold out to these international parties. In this regard, the president highlighted the opposition presidential candidate is unable to call on foreign parties to stop influencing in the internal matters of Maldives.
Furthermore, stating the efforts of the current administration has voiced several matters in the international arena, the president underlined policies of Maldives are now accepted by other countries. Continuing on, the president said it is also accepted by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) that Maldives is capable of chairing and advocating for small island states. In addition, the president noted the opposition, when given the chance, misused the opportunity, adding there are no new pledges by the opposition to mislead the public.
Moreover, during the trip, President Yameen marked the completion of 7 projects conducted in Thinadhoo by the current administration. In this regard, President marked the completion of Thinadhoo Islamic Centre, Museum Park, land reclamation and shore protection, road development, 120 housing units and the beach protection project. The government spent over USD 58.8 million to conduct the projects.
