Regional ports are not equipped with necessary equipment: MPL

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed the regional ports are not equipped with the necessary equipment to efficiently conduct loading and unloading.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Executive Officer Shahid Ali stated regional ports are established in Kulhudhuffushi, Maamigili and Addu City in addition to the Male' Commercial Harbour. However, Shahid Ali noted the regional ports are unused compared to the harbour in Male', adding discussions are underway to solve the issues in the ports. He said the main issue faced for the regional ports is the lack of required equipment.

Moreover, Shahid highlighted some works of the harbour in Male' are conducted in Hulhumale'. In this regard, he highlighted keeping empty containers and loading and unloading for resort vessels are carried out in Hulhumale'. He added the demand on Male' and Hulhumale' harbours will be eased once the regional ports are brought to full capacity.
