Goods worth USD 260 million imported to Maldives in January

Value of imports to Maldives has reached USD 260 million, marking a 6% increase year on year.

Imports worth 260 million US dollars were processed last month, according to statistics issued by Maldives Customs Service. The amount stood at USD 246 million in January 2018.

In January 2019, most imports were from China, Singapore, India and Malaysia. Goods worth USD 40 million were imported from China, goods worth USD 25.7 million were imported from Singapore, goods worth USD 21.5 million were imported from India and goods worth USD 21 million were imported from Malaysia.

Meanwhile, value of exports stood at USD 22.1 million in January of this year. However, this is a year on year decrease of 28%.

The exports include goods worth USD 16.7 million exported to the UK, goods worth USD 2.2 million exported to Germany, goods worth USD 1.8 million exported to the US, goods worth USD 1.23 million exported to France and goods worth USD 1.036 million exported to Thailand.

As for revenue, the state generated nearly USD 20 million from import duties, which is a 14% increase year on year.
