Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has held meetings with high level dignitaries attending the High Level Segment of the 40th United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid met with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and reassured full commitment of Maldives to advancing human rights. During the meeting, the Minister discussed further cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) including placement of a Human Rights Advisor in the Maldives.
Additionally, Foreign Minister met with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia Marise Payne. During the meeting Minister emphasised the ongoing technical cooperation by Australia and discussed avenues for further cooperation.
Moreover, Foreign Minister met with Foreign Minister of Norway Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide and discussed the vulnerability of small island states in addition to the needs for opportunity to be represented at bigger platforms.
The Foreign Minister also met with the Fijian delegation attending the UNHRC led by Fijian Foreign Minister Frank Bainimarama.
In addition, Foreign Minister held talks with Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon during High Level Segment of 40th HRC to discuss Maldives' engagement internationally, including Commonwealth accession and to enhance bilateral dialogue.
