Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) has revealed the government supports the committee's ambitions to host the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in 2023. Secretary General of MOC Ahmed Marzooq made the statement after a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Marzooq added the government has pledged support to bid for IOIG 2023.
During the meeting, members of MOC officially invited the president to the IOIG, which is to be held in Mauritius from July 19-28. The members of MOC also requested the president to allocate land to operate their office premise.
MOC expressed interest to host the IOIG 2015 but did not get the support of the then government.
