Transport Ministry seeking more helmets for distribution

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has revealed efforts are underway to seek more helmets in corporation with global aid organisations. The minister made the remarks speaking to PSM News during the ceremony held to distribute helmets to the public.

Transport Minister Aishath Nahula said the ministry is now working to attain more helmets with the assistance from global aid organisations. Noting the distribution of helmets are not a solution for all traffic issues, the minister highlighted the importance of putting forth individual responsibility. However, she expressed utilising helmets is an important step towards minimising road accidents.

Under the initiative of the administration to distribute 5,000 helmets, Maldives Transport Authority distributed 202 helmets on the first day. Helmet distribution programmes will be held until March 5, according to the transport authority.

Furthermore, the authority in collaboration with Ministry of Education have decided to distribute 500 helmets for students.
