Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) has launched an online portal that enables customers to apply for services online.
Speaking at the ceremony held to mark the 24th anniversary of the state-owned utility company, Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal highlighted the main complaint from the citizens is the amount of time taken to attain services from government authorities. The minister spoke on the importance of providing services fast with the use of latest technologies available. He noted the ministry will always provide assistance in such endeavours.
Noting MWSC was initially established to cater for a population of 60,000 people, Managing Director Adam Azim revealed the challenges faced in serving a population of 200,000. He said with significant changes brought to the company in the past months, the complaints received by MWSC has decreased by 90%.
Established on April 2, 1995, MWSC is the pioneer organisation in Maldives to institute a water production and wastewater management system. Since then, the company has worked diligently to provide the people of Male' with potable water and manage wastewater sustainably, and at present serves approximately more than 50% of the Maldivian population.
