President allocates 3.3 hectares of land from Emboodhoo lagoon to develop as picnic island

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has allocated a 3.3 hectares of land from Emboodhoo Lagoon to develop as a picnic island.

Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the project and its development plan, President Solih stated in the greater Male’ region there are no natural islands which are unused. The president expressed Emboodhoo Lagoon was allocated to avoid reclaiming an additional lagoon and to use an already reclaimed land. The project has been contracted to the company conducting crossroads project in Emboodhoo Lagoon, Singha Estate, the president noted.

Moreover, President Solih expressed aim is to complete the project during the first quarter of next year without any delays. Noting the project will enable access to all products and accessories for picnic from one island, president said services such as water sports, restaurants and family rooms will be developed. President reiterated the vision of the administration to minimize congestion in Male’.

Meanwhile, speaking at the ceremony, Minister of National Planning and Urban Development Mohamed Aslam said the people going to picnic on the island can access to facilities established in the resort. The minister added the resort and the picnic island will however be completely separate. Aslam revealed the picnic island will be reached within 15 minutes from Male’. As part of the project, a 200 metre beach front area will be developed.
