Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced a road development project in Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll. The project was inaugurated by CEO of MTCC Hassan Shah.
Under the agreement with the government, MTCC will construct and develop 3.3 kilometres of road networks in the island. The main roads of the island will be developed with a storm water management system. The agreement also requires the state-owned company to install LED street lights, construction of speed breakers and establish road markings. The project is estimated to cost over USD 123,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hassan Shah said 17 roads in Eydhafushi will be tarred and developed to modern standards. Shah assured the project will be completed within the scheduled time. Revealing when conducting the project, suggestions from the public will be sought, he noted some other projects will be initiated in Eydhafushi, as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of MTCC.
The road development project in Eydhafushi was previously conducted by Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC). However, once MRDC was abolished, the project has been on halt for a long period of time.
