State Trading Organisation (STO) has assured staple food will be available throughout Ramadan.
Speaking to PSM News, General Manager at STO People's Choice Hussain Sobah said efforts were exerted to ensure staple food are made available to citizens without interruptions. In this regard, Sobah added effort are exerted collectively by STO agents in atolls and its outlets. While 174 STO agents are in 157 islands, 11 islands have STO shops. Sobah assured the stock of staple foods and other necessities are checked every day to ensure the stock do not run out.
Before month of Ramadan, STO commenced providing staples across the country without any differentiation in prices. It is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to eliminate the price difference of staple foods across the country.
Comparing the prices, previously a sack of rice was sold for USD 15.54 while it has been reduced to USD 12.88, a sack of sugar was sold for USD 15.60 but has been reduced to USD 12.95, while a sack of flour was sold for USD 12.30 but has been lowered to USD 9.65.
