Ministry of Finance has revealed the highest amount of Green Tax received in April was from Kaafu Atoll. Over USD 5.3 million was received as Green Tax in April this year, according to statistics published by finance ministry.
Green Tax is payable by tourists who stay in tourist resorts, tourist hotels, tourist vessels and guest houses. Green Tax is payable at the rate of USD 6 per day of stay from tourist resorts, tourist hotels and tourist vessels, and USD 3 per day of stay from tourist guesthouses. Maldivians and resident permit holders are not required to pay Green Tax.
From Kaafu atoll, over USD 1.89 million was received in April while second most amount was recorded from Alifu Dhaalu Atoll with USD 587,000. The third highest amount as Green Tax was received from Baa Atoll, which was USD 503,000.
While over USD 5.3 million was received as Green Tax in April, the total amount of green tax recorded in the first third of the year exceed USD 23 million.
