Seven Maldivians evacuated from Wuhan return to Maldives

All 7 Maldivian nationals evacuated from Wuhan City, China have returned to Maldives after completing the quarantine period in India.

The Maldivians arrived in Maldives on an Air India flight on Tuesday morning. Upon arrival they were received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Humeid and senior officials from High Commission of India in Maldives. All relevant authorities have confirmed the Maldivians evacuated from Wuhan were tested negative for Covid-19.
On January 30, the Government of Maldives announced efforts were underway to evacuate all 9 Maldivians in Wuhan City. However, only 7 of the 9 Maldivians in Wuhan City wanted to return back to the country. The 7 Maldivians included a child, a man and 5 women.

With the joint efforts of the governments of China, India and Maldives, 7 Maldivians in Wuhan were safely evacuated along with 323 Indian nationals on February 20. The Maldivians were then relocated to a quarantine facility outside New Delhi, India.

The Maldivian government has extended appreciation to the governments of India and China for the support in evacuating and bringing the Maldivians safely home.
