Children should be allowed to prosper in careers of their choosing: Vice President

Vice President Faisal Naseem has urged all parents to ensure every child has the opportunity to prosper in a career of their choosing.

The vice president made the remarks after inaugurating the Heyvalla programme initiated by Ministry of Education. The programme was launched as part of his visit to Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll.

Stating the future of the nation depends on nurturing a generation of competent and productive citizens, Vice President Naseem elaborated on the priority accorded to such objectives by other nations as well. The vice president further noted the importance of human resources development, especially for countries like Maldives with minimal resources. Emphasising the importance accorded to education sector development by the administration, he highlighted the largest allocation in the budget was earmarked for the education sector.

Heyvalla is a nation-wide skills development programme initiated by the education ministry to provide vocational training for students who complete secondary education. The programme also entails internship opportunities and skills development in numerous fields. As part of the programme, a carpentry and sewing class was launched in Ungoofaaru School.
