Dental services inaugurated in Noonu Atoll Hospital

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has inaugurated dental services in Noonu Atoll Hospital.

Speaking at the function held to inaugurate the service, Minister Ameen said the inauguration of dental services in Noonu Atoll Hospital will eliminate the need for long journeys by patients to seek dental services from Male' City or other islands. The minister further said the establishment of dental services in the atoll will also provide convenience for employees of nearby resorts.

Noting lifestyle and food are associated with the common dental problems found in Maldives, the minister requested early diagnosis and treatment in order to attain good dental health. In his speech, Minister Ameen assured the commitment of the administration to improve health services in all parts of the country.

Speaking at the function, Parliamentarian Ahmed Haroon stressed on the importance of expanding hospital space in order to better the services provided by the hospital. Haroon said another concern is the lack of medical supplies in pharmacies, adding he is working with State Trading Organisation (STO) closely to improve the situation. Acknowledging the establishment of dental services in the hospital, he also urged the minister to introduce orthopedic services in the hospital.

The Non-communicable diseases (NCD) clinic and cessation clinic of the hospital was also inaugurated by the minister on his visit. The Atoll Hospital located in the island of Manadhoo will ease the troubles of about 15,000 people in the atoll, in addition to the 2,000 people living in Manadhoo.

Furthermore, the health minister also inaugurated laboratory services in Landhoo Health Centre during his visit to the atoll. During the inauguration ceremony, the minister pledged to establish a blood bank in the laboratory for the convenience of thalassemia patients in the atoll. He also pledged to renovate the health centre and establish additional services.

The newly established laboratory in Landhoo health centre will provide services of blood count testing and bio-chemistry analysis. Blood transfusion will also be available from the facility.
