92 people arrested for violating stay home order

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested 92 individuals illegally roaming around on the roads of greater Male' Region.

Speaking at a press briefing, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said MPS has warned of action against individuals out of homes in the Greater Male' Region during the lockdown period. He stated 92 individuals were taken to the police station, with some individuals fined due to violating the orders of staying indoors.

Actions against the violators were taken under section 533 of the Maldives Penal Code. MPS revealed actions were taken against violators for obstructing the administration of law.

In efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, the government has taken stringent measures, including imposing a full lockdown of the Greater Male' Region until May 1.
